Day 42: 5 Tips on Praying Out loud

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." 1 John 5:14

I was with a group of women last week, and we were gathered around the living room just talking about God, and specifically about the awkwardness sometimes of praying out loud. We laughed about our similar experiences and shared ways to overcome.  I thought I would share a few today!

1. Pray like you're talking to a Friend: God doesn’t want some big, eloquent speech! What He really wants is for you to be open, honest, and vulnerable with Him.

2. Pray Scripture: In Luke 11, it talks about one of the disciples asks Jesus, "Lord, teach us to pray"  He said to them, 'When you pray, say:

Our Father, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come.

Give us each day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins,

for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

And lead us not into temptation."

3. Practice: When you’re home alone instead of praying in your head, try praying out loud! Ask your children, your husband, your friend how you could pray for them and do it! This will help you get more comfortable with it.

4. Volunteer to Pray: This can be intimidating at first but the more you do it, the easier it will become.

5. Remember, you are not the only one: This can be intimidating at first but the more you do it, the easier it will become.  Remember, God loves to hear you talk to Him!

Do you find it hard to pray out loud too? Me too! I oftentimes get caught up in thinking it has to be this fancy, long, perfect prayer. It doesn't. God hears your heart.
