Just because you may be a Christian doesn't mean you're going to skate through living a problem-free life. Life is messy. Problems, challenges, difficult things, hard situations rise up all the time. Not all of them may not be huge critical situations, but many certainly will test you.
God uses problems in life to draw you closer to him. God could have kept Joseph out of jail, kept Daniel out of the lion's den, kept Jeremiah from being tossed in the slimy pit (see Jeremiah 38:6), and kept the three Hebrew men from being tossed in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:1-26)- but he didn't. He let those problems happen, and every one of those people got closer to God because of it.
Problems we face move us to look to God and depend on Him instead of ourselves. When you're in pain or facing a hard situation, turn to God, stay focused on Him, look to Him for guidance and the answer.
