Day 24 Spiritual Fitness: Comparison Kills the Crown

As women, we are so easily distracted by comparison. I am so tired of it but I am guilty of it. I struggled with comparison for years as a young kid in middle school and in high school, searching for my place in the crowd. In high school, I was on the varsity cheerleading squad, (let's be real, I just loved the cute uniforms), the huge bows, and the Friday night football games. It was all so much fun for me, but I never felt like I fit in. I found myself always comparing what I looked like to others. Was I pretty enough, was I thin enough, do I have the right clothes, do people like me? Do they approve of me? I remember one day, some kid told me I was the 'big boned' cheerleader on the squad.   Wow. The power of words. That was like a sucker punch to the gut that birthed a lie in me that perpetuated some really bad choices in my young life. Why did I give this one kid so much power? Oh yes, because I was listening to the wrong voice, and focusing on the wrong crowd, forgetting who God created me to be.

Fast forward twenty years or so. Now I am a wife and a mom of three young littles, and I still sometimes struggle with comparison.  Am I pretty enough, am I thin enough, do people even like me, do they approve of me?  How is it that I continue to compare myself with others even as a grown adult almost 40 years old!?  Isn't it interesting how the same issues that we struggle with in our childhood somehow sometimes still linger in our adulthood?   One of the greatest ways to honor God is to be exactly who he has created you to be. The moment you begin to compare yourself with other people, other mamas, is when you lose your uniqueness and you kill the crown, so don't do it! Comparison truly is a waste of time.

Too many of God's daughters are walking around incredibly vulnerable, unarmed, and at risk for lies and deceptions from the wrong crowd.  We have to guard the hearts of our children and our own hearts with the truth about who we are, so we don't fall prey to the lies of the enemy. We have to see ourselves how God sees us.

Girls/Ladies, declare this over yourself today:

YOU ARE AN EXTRAORDINARY, HEROIC, LOVELY DAUGHTER OF THE ETERNAL MOST HIGH GOD who behaves VIRTUOUSLY , who is made in the image of God, and who is called BEAUTIFUL. You are PRECIOUS in His sight, more precious than all the jewels in the Kingdom!  There is NO ONE else like you! You have a royal calling on your life and it is not to merely fit in, you were created to stand out!

So always remember that.  You wear the crown of everlasting life given by the life-Giver who loves you more abundantly than you could ever dare to know. Don't kill the crown by allowing comparison to run your life.

Galatians 1:10 says, "Am I trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."

Proverbs 4:23," Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."

II Timothy 4:9. …Demas has deserted me because he loved this present world …
In what ways do I desert God and faith because of my love for the comforts of this world?
