Have you ever slowed down long enough to think about what your passion really is? What do you wake up excited about? What do you love spending your time doing? What is it that you could do that you would do anyway even if you were never paid? What brings you joy?
Your passion could be being with people, helping others, working with your hands, or even being a mom! We’re each wired differently and we each have something unique and significant to offer with passions.
Maybe its time to ask yourself what is keeping you from embracing your passion? What could happen if you surrendered those desires to God and allowed him to use you in a way that He desired?
Here are 7 ways to help you find your passion:
1. Slow down!
Slowing down allows you to quiet the outside voices and listen to yourself and hear God more. This might mean going for daily walks or setting aside time each day to just to be still.
2. Don't put yourself in a box.
Some of us tend to put ourselves in a box, limiting ourselves in who we are, what we are capable of, and what we were created for. If we get stuck in the "I am not good enough, strong enough, courageous enough, or even equipped enough to go after our passions, its less likely we will find them. When you begin to give your desires and dreams over to God, he will show you the unlimited, extravagant, and unimaginable plans that he has for you, that you never even dreamed of!
3. Own your uniqueness.
We are here for a reason. No one else has your unique blend of talents, wisdom, strengths, skills, and creativity. We all have something great to offer, and learning to accept and own what makes you unique is crucial to sharing your gifts with the world.
4. Build your confidence.
If we are continually telling ourselves we can’t, then we will never believe we can. There is a chance you may fail, but it will be impossible to succeed if you don’t believe in yourself. You canfocus on the things you want, and create your own positive affirmations (writing truth about who God says you are and His promises for you), and put them all around so you can see them! You can also make a vision board ( I have attached a few ideas from Pinterest if you have never done a vision board!) that shows what your passions are and combining those with the truths from God!
5. Find the themes.
Recognizing the recurring themes in our lives can help us see the patterns of what our passions tend to be and what they are not. What themes or lessons seem to constantly surface in your life? What are you drawn to again and again? What areas of life seem to be full of discomfort and pain? What areas are full of joy and light? What makes your heart beat faster and what excites you?
6. Write.
Ideas flow more freely when we write them out! New inspiration may appear unexpectedly and it becomes easier to connect the dots. Spend a few minutes of quality time each day with a pen and paper allowing yourself to journal what brings you joy and what you truly love to spend your time doing.
7. Push past fear.
It’s so seductive to tell ourselves that we’ll go after what we want when we have more experience, more money, or more time, but the truth is, that will never happen. We need to identify the fears that keep holding us back. It’s only when when the fear is identified, that we are better able to overcome them, keep them from holding us back, and begin moving forward.
